AVON ?

? As the 150th anniversary of America's bloodiest day approaches, a local historian who has focused on Connecticut troops at the Civil War battle of Antietam is to speak at the Avon Free Library on Saturday.

John Banks has gathered numerous letters, stories and photos on his blog _ http://john-banks.blogspot.com. Banks is to tell stories about the state men who were killed or wounded at the Maryland battle on Sept. 17, 1862, according to a news release.

His talk, scheduled for 1 p.m., is among free activities from noon to 3 p.m. that also will include Civil War reenactors, music, cider, donuts and a hands-on display of toys and games from the era, the release said.
